Ekphrastic Poetry

Workshop - Ekphrastic Poetry, with Robert Walton

Whereas the work of the artists in the ‘Visual Poetry’ exhibition has been created in response to poetry, this workshop takes the process full circle and explores the possibilities of writing poetry in response to the art in the exhibition. Poet Robert Walton looks at how a few leading poets have written in response to art – ekphrastic poetry – but we’ll mostly explore the perspectives and voices that arise from our own engagement with the art in this exhibition. We’ll focus on a couple of works together and we’ll also have free rein to select pieces that speak to us individually so that we can speak back to them in writing.

This workshop is suitable for poets at all levels, whether at a beginning or early stage, or much more experienced. Perhaps you’ve never written poetry before and would like to give it a try. Perhaps you write poetry regularly but are interested in finding inspiration in art that is new and invigorating.  All you’ll need is an open mind, a readiness to share some of your thoughts and appreciate those of other people, and a pencil and notebook or laptop.

This is a wonderful experiential workshop where you can set your creative mind free in a relaxed, non-judgemental environment.

Limited to 12 people.
